Of Thee I Sing

by Helen Cozart on 2023-03-29T21:21:41-05:00 | 0 Comments

Have you ever seen a musical that changed your way of thinking about a political or social issue?  From George and Ira Gershwin’s Of Thee I Sing to Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Hamilton:  An American Musical, the intersection between entertainment, politics, and patriotism presents an emotionally powerful combination for theatergoers.

This travelling exhibit from the Great American Songbook Foundation will be available at the Ranger College library from March 28th through May 4th, 2023.

America has a rich tradition of creating music.  The Great American Songbook consists of enduring standards; the songs that are played and sung over and over by multiple generations.  These songs have a timeless meaning and resonance, whether they are days or decades old.

Musical theatre in the U.S. has engaged with political topics from its earliest days and the political side of this musical heritage is explored in Of Thee I Sing.  We look forward to seeing you here!
