I have been writing the What to Do This Weekend column for the Ranger College Library for almost five years. It is a terrific site that offers up a ton of things to do in the surrounding area. I believe that life experiences make us better thinkers. I encourage world travel because exposure to other cultures and communities allows us to see things from other perspectives. While at Ranger College, students are not likely to have the resources to travel, but there is an alternative – fairs, festivals, rodeos, music and art events, heritage events and more are all happening every weekend within a couple of hours from here. Activities can range from demolition derbies to operas.
The website has tabs for community theatres and bike races and runs. It also keeps track of events for seasonal events and holidays. You will find links for Diwali, Halloween, Mardi Gras, and more. (These links may not work, depending on what time of year you are looking. I turn them off out of season to cut down on the clutter.)
On the website, I post events for four to six weeks out, so you have time to plan. I have come to realize that people often forget to look there and then the weekend slips by. I have decided to start this blog, delivered on Mondays so the information is at hand when you are thinking about What to Do This Weekend, right in your inbox. Most events happen on the weekends, but that is not a guarantee. Be sure to click the link to check for dates, times, locations, and prices.
