Eastland, TX Outdoor Art Museum
Andy Warhol

In 2002, former Eastland High School Art teacher Cathi Ball joined forces with then current art teacher Norman Logan on an ambitious project to install reproductions of famous art pieces outside of local businesses throughout town. Her goal was to "offer art history to a small community that has no permanent facility for art education." (https://cathiballart.com/community.html

According to her website, "Each site is attributed to the original artist, offering a brief biography and it’s significance in art history. The majority of the works are 4 x 8’ sign-boards, but some are as large as 8’ x 20’. Most of the beginning work was done by art students in the art room, Cathi Ball and Norman Logan. Cathi graduated from Tarleton State University in 1996 with a secondary teaching certification in art... Norman graduated from Sul Ross State University in 1983 with a BA in art and an all-level teaching certificate. They share a love of the arts and want to make art accessible to all by placing educational sites throughout the town. Visual literacy is one of the goals of the museum, educating the public to familiar images in their world."

What began with the now iconic Tomato Soup Can by artist Andy Warhol, painted on a 210 gallon oil-field tank located just off Interstate 20 at exit 343, quickly grew into a collection of 43 pieces, painted by Ball, Logan, and EHS art students in addition to members of the local community.  Most of the pieces are still on display today.

The outdoor art museum is a unique attraction that was embraced by the entire city. On this page you can view each of the installations, and identify the original artist as well as the local artists who created the reproductions. Enjoy...
