Qualitative information has qualities

Qualitative research evaluates unmeasurable qualities such as like/dislike, opinions, or motivations.  It is often used in the social sciences to determine underlying reasons through interviews or focus groups.

Quantitative research gathers data that is numerical or can be transformed into statistical information.  Collection methods are structured and controlled.  Examples include surveys, weights, times, or any other measurable parameter.
